Addis Ababa or "New Flower" is the capital of the country of Ethiopia, Africa. One unique aspect of this city is that it serves as both a city and a state. Addis is a city of around 4 million people and is also considered the Diplomatic capital of the world. It is the home to the African Union as well as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and numerous other continental and international organizations.
Ethiopia's capitol city sits at the base of Mount Entoto at the altitude of 7,546 feet above sea level. The climate is considered Subtropical Highland with average highs in the mid to upper 70's and average lows in the 50's. Mid November to late January is considered the winter season and is considered a dry winter climate. In addition there are long periods wetter and damper weather.
The country of Ethiopia has as many as 80 nationalities speaking 80 different languages. Amharic is the national language of the country. It is a Semitic language and is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world.
The religion with the most believers in Addis Ababa is Ethiopian Orthodox, while other commonly practiced religions are Muslim, Protestant and Catholic.
Addis is considered a good city as far as safety, with crimes such as burglary, pickpockets and scams as the more common offences. It is a fairly clean city and is continuing to develop as far as its economic and governmental stability.
